Generation Rwanda/Kepler

Kepler BA Lead Course Facilitator

About Generation Rwanda/Kepler

Generation Rwanda began in 2004 and has supported young people in Rwanda in achieving their higher education goals through scholarships for universities throughout the country. In 2013, GR expanded its reach when it started Kepler.

Kepler is a nonprofit university program designed to deliver the skills that emerging economies need. Kepler combines the best of online learning and an American competency-based degree program with in-person seminars and intensive education-to-employment support.

About the Role:

Kepler is looking for a Lead Course Facilitator (CF) to oversee the support for students working toward their Bachelor of Arts degrees in Management, Communications, and Healthcare Management through SNHU’s College for America program. The main goal of this role is to design and implement support structures that will help students consistently complete their degrees in a timely manner. An additional purpose of this role is to contextualize the American based degree to the Rwandan and regional context and support independent exploration and understanding of how the degree is relevant to the Rwandan and regional workplace in order to help students transition effectively into the workplace. This Lead CF will work in collaboration with a team of Course Facilitators, the ACD for CfA, and various other staff members to ensure effective support of students from the transition from AA to BA degree and through the transition to employment after BA graduation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage Course Facilitators and part-time employees to support students through the BA degree

  • Revise and edit current structures of CfA BA degree support

  • Collaborate with AA Degree Lead CF to strengthen the current CfA Panel Review system

  • Collaborate with the Academic Campus Director: CfA and Innovations to transition students from AA to BA degree

  • Collaborate with the Kepler Data Manager to collect, manage and share data of CfA BA progress with the broader academic team

  • Instruct non-native English speakers to rapidly improve English fluency through a competency-based, blended learning curriculum

  • Conduct class sessions as well as study groups  in a variety of content areas to support student basic skill acquisition as related to College for America.

  • Build courses (curriculum delivery and communication regarding curriculum) through a Learning Management System online.

  • Grade competency-based work and provide student feedback in a timely manner (48 hour turnaround max)

  • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and curriculum coordinator to generate CfA BA degree scope and sequences, lesson plans and other curriculum that supports diverse learners to acquire necessary and relevant skills

  • Modify curriculum for applicability to the context and to best support students

  • Engage in team meetings to collaborate and build quality products for student consumption and use

  • Support student success on College for America

  • Create workshops and support courses to help students make informed decisions about choosing the appropriate BA degree.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Careers and Alumni Affairs to support students into appropriate internships and careers as related to their field of study

  • Collaborate with Careers team to invite motivational guest speakers to share their experiences and inspire our students across different classes in CfA BA

  • Provide feedback on the program, curriculum and students to various stakeholders within the organization in a timely manner

  • Research MOOCs and other content delivery options to incorporate “flipped classroom models” that teach similar competencies to those found on CfA

  • Research and utilize effective online, in-person and blended learning teaching techniques

  • Collaborate with peers to share best-practices and innovations from the classroom

  • Conduct optional and mandatory office hours through a variety of formats: workshop, 1:1 conferences, group supported work time, etc.

  • Share and train other educators in implementation of online education in a blended learning environment

  • Facilitate various meetings for small teams and/or whole academic team

  • Participate in the Kim Marshall Observation process as outlined by administration

  • Work in collaboration with the academic team to achieve annual academic goals

  • Support Course Facilitators through the Kim Marshall evaluation system as an observer and coach

  • Plan and facilitate Professional Development for the Academic Team

  • Lead out the development, implementation and evaluation of the CfA BA in Communications, Healthcare Management, and Management degree curricula throughout the Kepler Academic Program

  • Collaborate with the Kiziba Curriculum Associate to adapt the CfA BA in Communications,  Healthcare Management, and Management degree curricula to the Kiziba model

  • Serve as a model instructor for other Course Facilitators as well as visitors to the Kepler model through an open classroom forum, demo-lessons, or co-teaching with struggling instructors

  • Serve as a lead or contributor to one or more teams outside of academics

Qualifications

  • BA degree or higher (preference for Management, Business, or related degrees)

  • Highly motivated with a passion for education

  • 1 year as a full-time Kepler Course Facilitator or Junior Course Facilitator

  • Demonstrates a strong desire to implement education through a process model of learning, implementing, reflecting, revising and re-implementing

  • Demonstrates leadership through participation, initiative and work ethic within the academic team

  • Conducts himself/herself in a fashion that demonstrates service leadership

  • Demonstrates growth in teaching practices over time

  • Applies learning from personal professional development or Kepler-based professional development in the classroom
