I.    Project Overview


Improving Market Systems for Agriculture in Rwanda (IMSAR) is an initiative funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), which aims to stimulate growth and reduce poverty in Rwanda. Utilising the market systems approach IMSAR aims to improve the long-term efficiency and inclusiveness of the systems that matter most to the poor - the systems upon which their livelihoods depend and those that provide access to basic services.  IMSAR’s approach focuses on stimulating changes in practice among market actors - public and private, formal and informal – so that they are better able and motivated to perform important market functions effectively. IMSAR does this by brokering relationships and working with private sector firms to attract and support investments that drive growth and improve the poor’s terms of participation in these markets, resulting in real, tangible long-term benefits.


II.    Goal / Objectives of the assignment


The goal of the assignment is to ensure complete event management for the project launch including early event planning, execution and event reporting. This will include identification of a keynote speaker and panelists during the one-day event. The event is planned to take place in Kigali, convene about 100 participants, including GoR representatives, Private sector, NGO partners.


The event Manager will coordinate closely with the IMSAR team and other identified stakeholders to develop an engaging agenda utilising this platform to share various developments around IMSAR and the agriculture sector in Rwanda - specifically investment opportunities and project approach to addressing market constraints over the next 3.5 years of implementation.  The event manager will lead the preparations in collaboration with the project implementation team to plan, ensuring smooth logistics all the way to a final report on event happenings and highlights.


The launch event is planned for the first week of December 2018 (Dec 3 – 7).


III.    Key Activities


Consultation meetings with IMSAR team to understand further details of the assignment, and project work


Work with the IMSAR team to prepare presentations for the symposium


Draft and submit an inception report, highlighting activity plan/budget and launch event agenda for approval by IMSAR team


Facilitate the procurement for venue and related logistics


Manage invitations to invitees, and handle other related follow-ups (RSVP…)


Facilitate the event including registration of participants, and Moderating the event


Event coverage “Take notes on the major proceedings and to take a minimum of 30 high-resolution photos of attendees and happenings”)


Develop and submit event report


IV.    Qualifications


Demonstrated experience hosting similar events


Familiar with aspects of private sector development


Knowledge of agriculture in Rwanda is an advantage


Qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or similar field
