ActionAid Rwanda (AAR) is an Associate member of the Global Federation– an anti-poverty agency working with poor, voiceless people, communities and similar-minded partners worldwide. ActionAid is a non-partisan, non-religious development organization that has been working in Rwanda as a full-fledged Country Programme since 1997 to contribute towards eradication of poverty and injustices with a focus on tackling the root causes of poverty. In pursuance of its vision, mission and programme objectives through partnership engagement with FVA, Tubibe Amahoro and Duhozanye Organization, ActionAid Rwanda (AAR) is implementing a 5-year project to promote opportunities for women’s economic participation through supporting women economic initiatives concurrently balancing women’s burden of unpaid care work and productive economy. This project started in January 2016 and will end in December 2020. Documentation is key for this project to be able to document and disseminate some of it’s successful interventions in the areas of Unpaid Care Work(UCW) & Climate Resilience & Sustainable Agriculture(CRSA).

Therefore, there is a need to document and disseminate two case studies on successful UCW and CRSA/Agroecology interventions for learning and advocacy. Case studies on these interventions will be documented from LRP areas namely; Nyanza, Gisagara, Ruheru, Muko, Shingiro, Gitesi and Murundi.

Objectives of Case studies documentation

To document project successful interventions which reduce women’s burden and time spent on unpaid care work and to what extent have contributed to Unpaid Care Work(UCW) recognition, redistribution, reduction and representation and connection to women’s economic empowerment and leadership participation to use it as evidence for advocacy.

To Document Agroecology CRSA (Climate Resilience & Sustainable Agriculture) successful interventions and how have contributed to increased income for women smallholder farmer groups working with ActionAid especially POWER Project.

Expected outputs

Short video 20 minutes max highlighting project successful interventions of CRSA and UCW and the extent to which have contributed to UCW 4Rs and economic empowerment for target women smallholder farmers and entire communities with subtitles in English.

Video should have English subtitles, link & DVD of video should be submitted after approval

A narrative case study of UCW successful interventions and their impact on women’s participation in the economy and society in English

A narrative case study on Agroecology/CRSA successful interventions and contributed to increased income for women smallholder farmer groups working with POWER Project

50 well-designed leaflets in English summarizing POWER project successful interventions of UCW and CRSA for distribution to stakeholders

Period and location for this activity

The two case studies will be documented in AAR LRPs of Gisagara (Kibilizi, Muganza and Gishubi), Musanze (Muko and Shingiro), Nyanza (Busasamana, Rwabicuma, Mukingo), Karongi (Murundi and Gitesi) and Nyaruguru (Ruheru LRP) and need to be submitted not later than one (1) month after signing of the contract.

Expected Qualifications

At least 4 years of experience in communication consultancies (in areas of videography, photography & writing narrative case studies)

Proficient narrative report writing/editing skills

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, PR or Communications related field

Knowledge on Unpaid Care Work & Climate Resilience & Sustainable Agriculture

Proven videography & photography skills (5 or more years of experience)

Duration of Assignment

This assignment will last for 1 month starting immediately after the consultant signs a contract.


Qualified and Interested consultants & Consultancy firms can submit a detailed both technical and financial proposal well elaborated in English no later than 6 th November 2018, at 11:00 AM @ the Actionaid (Head Office) located in Remera/Rukiri near Amahoro National Stadium next to RSSB Building and CSS Bank. The opening of the bids will be communicated to the selected persons.
