Africa Development Consultant Limited (ADC) (located at Tedeum building/House No 44, KN 5 RD, Remera Sector, Gasabo district, Kigali city) is supporting the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) grantees in implementing the USADF funded projects. It is based on the above background that ADC is looking for an individual Consultant to train members of Arabica coffee Cooperative on coffee value chain.  The cooperative is located at Nyakabungo Cell, Ntongwe Sector of Ruhanga District of Southern Province. Arabica Coffee grows and processes Coffee for export. The coffee cooperative has been facing some challenges including marketing of their produce


1.      Objective of the training:

The objective of the training is to strengthen the capacity of the Arabica Coffee Cooperative in the Rwanda Coffee Value Chain.

Specific training objectives will include: to understand the commodity value chain concept; descriptive analysis of Coffee commodity value chain and its various stages, mapping of all the coffee value chain actors and their roles, identify constraints and opportunities in the value chain, of coffee production, postharvest handling, processing, and marketing and Identify the strategic intervention for becoming competitive actor in the coffee value chain.  

Participants/ Trainees:

Arabica Coffee board and its committees’ members, zone representatives and management team


Scope of work:

The scope of the work is as follows:

a)                  Liaison with Arabica coffee leadership to identify members of the Cooperative not exceeding 30 who will attend the training.

b)                  Propose key stakeholders including coffee buyers to invite for sharing experience of working with Arabica Coffee.

c)                  Submit the training curriculum, training materials, and participants’ handouts in English and Kinyarwanda languages to ADC focal person for a review and approval before the training.

d)                 Conduct a three days training which will include pre – training and post training assessment.

e)                  Prepare and submit training report. .


Assignment duration is expected to be 5 days including preparatory day, 3 days of training and report writing.



2.      Deliverables:


ü  Training curriculum on Coffee Value Chain

ü  Trainees Handout

ü  Training report with follow up action and work plan to improve Arabica participation in the coffee value chain.


3.      Reporting Mechanism

The consultant will work closely with ADC Agribusiness Specialist who will be reporting to the ADC Program Director on the progress of the training.

5.         Qualifications:

ADC is looking to hire an individual Consultant with competency and experiences on coffee value chain training and should meet the below minimum qualifications:

ü  A Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture Sciences or Agriculture Economics, Rural Development or any other related field. A master’s degree is added value.

ü  At least 5 years of proven experience in conducting value chain trainings with .a minimum of one (1) on coffee.

ü  Proof of at least two certificates or copies of contracts of similar training accomplished will be required.

ü  The consultant with proven strong experience in coffee sector will be an added advantage.

ü  Knowledge of Rwanda Business Environment and Agriculture Policy.

5.      Presentation and submission of bids/offers:


The Technical and Financial proposals shall be submitted on the following email: (hard copies will be also considered), not later than November 29, 2019 at 5:00 pm and will include compulsively the following:


(a)    Technical and Financial proposal.

(b)   Detailed CV of a consultant.

(i)                 Copies of degree certificates.

(ii)               Certificates of previous similar assignments accomplished including that related to coffee

(iii)             Proposals and reports will be submitted in English Language. Trainees handout and training language should be in Kinyarwanda


6.      Financial offer:


The Consultant will quote for fee for 5 days and round trip transport cost to the training venue located in Ruhango town. The price quotation should be in local currency and should include all applicable taxes in Rwanda. Note that the Cooperative will carter costs related to venue, stationery, transport of trainees, accommodation and meals.


7.      Delivery period:

All the training services, including submission of the final training report will be accomplished not later than January 31, 2020.


8.      Terms of payment:

30% of the contract amount will be paid after contract signing and approval of the curriculum and training materials by ADC.

  • 70% of the contract amount will be paid after submission, review and approval of the training report.


9.      Service Contract

A contract of service will be discussed and signed between the Consultant or firm representative and Africa Development Consultant Ltd (ADC). The contract and the terms of reference will guide performance of the contract, and is basis for performance evaluation.
