The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation (KFHRF) is at the heart of a historic transformation in Rwanda’s healthcare sector. In support of the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) ambitious 2023 national strategy, the Foundation is a key player in the goal to quadruple the country’s healthcare workforce within just four years. This initiative is designed to meet World Health Organization (WHO) targets, strengthen primary care, and drastically expand training for medical, nursing, and midwifery professionals.
To ensure the financial integrity and success of these high-impact programs, KFHRF is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Accountant. This role is more than just bookkeeping; it is a vital function that ensures funding and partnerships are managed with the highest level of transparency and efficiency to build a sustainable health system for all Rwandans.
1. The Strategic Impact of the Accountant Role
The Accountant at KFHRF serves as the financial backbone for programs that directly influence the density of health workers in Rwanda. By managing the financial operations of the Foundation, the successful candidate ensures that resources are correctly allocated to workforce development and primary care strengthening.
Working under the Finance Manager, the Accountant will bridge the gap between complex grant management and daily operational excellence. This is a full-time, one-year renewable contract based in the vibrant capital of Kigali.
2. Key Responsibilities and Financial Management
The Accountant is responsible for the end-to-end financial lifecycle of the Foundation’s initiatives. Accuracy and compliance are the top priorities in this role.

Accurate Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous financial records and ensure every transaction is captured accurately within QuickBooks.
Monthly Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly financial statements and reports for review by the Finance Officer, providing a clear picture of the Foundation’s fiscal health.
Cash Flow & Liquidity: Actively monitor cash flow to ensure the Foundation maintains sufficient liquidity for its operational needs, particularly for time-sensitive MoH-supported programs.
2.2. Operational Finance and Compliance
Accounts Payable: Process supplier invoices and manage payments, with a specific focus on prioritizing financial operations that support national healthcare workforce development.
Reconciliations: Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and manage all organizational payments to ensure zero discrepancies.
Taxation & Regulations: Manage monthly employee tax declarations and stay updated on Rwandan tax policies, including exemptions, to ensure the Foundation remains in full compliance with local laws.
3. Budgeting, Audits, and Strategic Support
Beyond daily transactions, the Accountant plays a consultative role in the long-term planning and accountability of the Foundation.
3.1. Budget Monitoring and Grants
Annual Budgeting: Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, ensuring that funding allocations are aligned with the strategic goals of the Ministry of Health.
Grant Management: Support the financial reporting requirements for various grants, ensuring that donors and partners receive transparent and accurate data on how funds are utilized.
3.2. Audit Preparation and Internal Controls
External Audit Support: Act as a primary point of contact for external auditors by preparing necessary documentation and implementing recommendations to continuously improve the Foundation’s financial processes.
Policy Alignment: Ensure that all financial practices remain strictly aligned with both the Foundation’s internal policies and local regulatory requirements.
4. Candidate Profile: Qualifications and Experience
KFHRF is looking for a professional who combines technical accounting expertise with a passion for public health and national development.
