AUDIT ASSISTANT – Experienced
3. Role Purpose
To independently execute complex audit sections and supervise junior staff on engagements. The Experienced AUDIT ASSISTANT supports Senior Auditors by leading fieldwork, performing detailed technical testing, and ensuring work papers meet review and filing standards with minimal supervision.
4. Key Responsibilities
1) Fieldwork Leadership
- Lead assigned audit areas: revenue, PPE, inventory, loans, payroll, investments, and complex reconciliations.
- Perform advanced substantive and controls testing, including data analytics procedures.
- Resolve client queries and document audit conclusions clearly for review.
2) Work Paper Preparation & Review Support
- Prepare high-quality, well-referenced working papers requiring minimal rework and reports.
- Reviewing financial records and internal controls.
- Review work of junior auditors and Interns for completeness and accuracy.
- Clear first-level review notes and prepare sections for Manager review.
3) Filing & Quality Control
- Ensure that assigned files meet Baker Tilly documentation standards and are ready for archival within 45 days of report date.
- Support final file closure, indexing, and upload to filing platform used.
- Maintain client confidentiality and data security protocols.
4) Client & Team Management
- Act as on-site lead for small engagements under Senior Auditor supervision.
- Liaise with client finance teams to obtain evidence and resolve discrepancies.
- Coach and mentor 1–2 junior staff during fieldwork.
5) Deliverables
- Completed audit sections with minimal review points.
- Cleared review notes and updated lead schedules.
- Finalized working papers and indexed files in electronic system.
- Weekly status reports to Senior Auditor on progress, risks, and issues.
5. Qualifications, Experience & Technical Skills
Essential:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Professional qualification: ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in external audit within a recognized audit firm (Big 4 or mid-tier firm experience strongly preferred).
- Proven experience auditing SMEs, NGOs, and/or donor-funded projects.
- Experience in leading audit sections and supervising junior staff.
Desirable:
- Exposure to IT Audit Software (Caseware Working Papers, TeamMate, CCH, AudITech, etc.)
- Accounting Software (Oracle Financials, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Sage 300/Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, Xero, Tally, Odoo, etc.)
- Data Analytics: Advanced Excel, AI, etc.
- Tax & Compliance and Online tax filing.
6. Key Competencies & Skills
- Proven experience with Tax/company laws, Compliance and Online tax filing.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Strong supervision, coaching, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and quality control mindset.
- Professional skepticism, integrity, and client relationship skills.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Candidates who are fluent in French will have an advantage.
7. Reporting Line
- Reports to: Senior Auditor / Audit Manager
- Location: Baker Tilly Office
- Contract: Full-time
