π Job Brief: Financial Control and Risk Management
The Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting the complete audit cycle, including risk assessment, control evaluation, and compliance monitoring of the lodge’s daily revenues and operations. This role demands precision in verifying financial records, identifying opportunities for cost savings and improved profitability, and ensuring adherence to both hotel and corporate financial controls, as well as HACCP regulations.
β Key Responsibilities & Audit Focus
The auditorβs duties span financial, operational, and safety compliance:
1. Daily Revenue and Financial Audits
Audit Execution: Perform and manage the full audit lifecycle, focusing on the effectiveness of internal controls, the reliability of financial data, and compliance with all hotel and corporate policies.
Daily Verification: Accurately audit daily revenues and financial performance, ensuring all journals and reports reflect the true and accurate position of the lodge.
Risk and Cost Management: Proactively identify financial risks and operational loopholes, providing management with actionable recommendations for risk aversion and enhanced cost savings.
Process Improvement: Evaluate current accounting and financial record-keeping systems and recommend specific improvements to increase accuracy, profitability, and compliance.
2. Reporting and Compliance
Audit Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations detailing audit findings, process documentation, and suggested management interventions.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations, including the accounting and financial controls, comply with relevant Rwandan regulations, hotel standards, and industry best practices.
HACCP and Safety: Monitor compliance with HACCP rules and regulations (food safety) and general Health and Safety at the workplace, including the proper use of protective equipment.
3. Advisory and Miscellaneous
Objective Advice: Act as an independent, objective advisor to management regarding the validity, legality, and achievement of financial and operational goals.
Continuous Development: Maintain continuous professional knowledge regarding sector-specific rules, regulations, best practices (e.g., CPA/ACCA standards), and auditing techniques.
Confidentiality: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding all financial and internal operational information.
π― Candidate Requirements
1. Education and Professional Certification
Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent relevant discipline.
Certification Advantage: Holding a professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) is a significant asset.
2. Experience and Skills
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in an auditing capacity.
Industry Preference: Previous auditing or accounting experience within the hospitality or tourism industry is highly valued.
Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of audit software, MS Office Suite, and hotel booking/payment systems.
Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, public relations, and guest/customer relations skills. Proven creativity, innovation, and high accountability in decision-making.
