AI Product Manager (Consultant) – Irembo | Kigali, Rwanda or Remote (10-Month Contract)

We are hiring an AI Product Manager (Consultant) to lead a major strategic initiative under IremboAI. The consultant will oversee the rollout of AI-driven tools that will change how Rwandans—especially those with disabilities, low literacy levels, or limited digital skills—access public services. This includes a Multilingual AI Chatbot and a Voice Assistant (Virtual Agent) in Kinyarwanda, English, and French.

About the Role
As the AI Product Manager, you will guide the transition from Phase 1: Chatbot Pilot to Phase 2: Voice Assistant Development, ensuring the product meets national accessibility, security, language accuracy, and inclusivity standards. You will act as the bridge between advanced AI technologies (LLMs, Speech-to-Text, NLP) and the real needs of Rwandan citizens.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Strategy & Roadmap
Improve the existing chatbot so it evolves from basic FAQs to a fully interactive transactional assistant.
Design and lead the roadmap for the AI Voice Assistant, enabling citizens to access services using natural speech.
Manage open-source releases of specific AI tools to support Rwanda’s technology ecosystem.
2. AI Development & Data Strategy
Oversee development and validation of 10,000 hours of Kinyarwanda voice datasets in partnership with local innovators.
Implement intelligent error-prevention flows to reduce service application mistakes by 40%.
3. User Experience & Inclusive Design
Champion inclusive design for users with low literacy, disabilities, or visual impairments.
Conduct structured user testing and pilots to enhance accuracy and natural communication.
4. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Engineering, Legal, Security, and Marketing to deliver a compliant, secure, and user-friendly AI solution.
Communicate progress effectively with internal teams, partners, and government stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required
3–5+ years in Product Management, with 1–2 years managing AI/ML or data products.
Strong understanding of NLP, LLMs (GPT, LLaMA), and Voice AI (STT/TTS).
Professional fluency in English and Kinyarwanda.
Demonstrated experience designing for accessibility and low-digital-literacy users.
Knowledge of data protection regulations and secure deployments.
Preferred
Fluency in French.
Experience contributing to or managing open-source software.
Strong communication skills for non-technical audiences, especially government teams.
