Contract Type: Full-time
Experience Required: Minimum 5 years


1. Company Background

Prime Life Insurance Ltd is a leading life insurance provider in Rwanda, committed to delivering reliable, transparent, and customer-oriented insurance services. To enhance operational efficiency and service quality, the company is seeking a skilled and experienced Claims Officer to support the processing and management of life insurance claims.


2. Purpose of the Role

The Claims Officer will be responsible for evaluating, validating, and processing life insurance claims in line with policy terms, internal procedures, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves analyzing claims data and recommending improvements to strengthen claims management processes.


3. Key Responsibilities

Claims Processing & Assessment

  • Receive, register, and acknowledge claims submitted by beneficiaries or policyholders.

  • Review all submitted documents to ensure completeness and compliance with policy conditions.

  • Coordinate with underwriting, finance, and customer service teams for data verification.

  • Assess claim eligibility and make recommendations for approval, rejection, or further investigation.

  • Prepare comprehensive claim assessment summaries for management review.

  • Ensure approved claims are paid within the agreed turnaround timelines.

Claims Investigation & Verification

  • Conduct investigations for high-value or doubtful claims in collaboration with medical experts, employers, or external assessors.

  • Verify key documents such as medical reports, death certificates, and beneficiary identification.

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards during investigations.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Communicate claim outcomes professionally and with empathy.

  • Offer guidance on claim requirements and procedures.

  • Address customer concerns and inquiries promptly and courteously.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure claims processes adhere to internal procedures and BNR regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical records for all processed claims.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly claims reports for management use.

  • Support both internal and external audits by providing accurate and timely data.

Risk Management & Process Improvement

  • Identify trends, fraud indicators, and operational inefficiencies.

  • Recommend solutions to reduce errors and improve claim processing time.

  • Contribute to periodic review and enhancement of claims procedures and documentation standards.


4. Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, or data science.

  • Professional insurance certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role.

  • Experience using digital systems and data management tools is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Good understanding of BNR regulations and insurance industry standards.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda, English, and French.

  • Must be Rwandan.


5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Claims processing turnaround time.

  • Accuracy in claims assessment and reporting.

  • Customer satisfaction levels.

  • Compliance with internal and external regulations.

  • Reduction of errors and disputed claims.


6. Contract & Reporting

This is a permanent position with a three-month probation period.
The Claims Officer will report to the Claims Manager, with additional accountability to the Technical Director.
