Position: Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance Specialist

Location: Remote (Global)
Employment Type: Full-Time

We are a fast-growing European startup specializing in innovative Microsoft cloud solutions. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance Specialist to strengthen our data protection, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the overall security posture of our Microsoft 365 environment.
This role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about cybersecurity, automation, cloud governance, and scalable compliance frameworks.


Job Overview

The Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security configurations and compliance protocols across the organization. You will play a key role in ensuring data integrity, mitigating risks, and aligning all Microsoft 365 services with global regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.


Key Responsibilities

1. Microsoft 365 Security Management

  • Configure and optimize Microsoft 365 security tools (Azure AD, Conditional Access, Microsoft Defender).

  • Implement risk-reducing policies and secure access controls.

  • Manage identity protection, MFA, and Zero Trust best practices.

2. Compliance & Regulatory Governance

  • Develop and execute compliance strategies for GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, and other frameworks.

  • Maintain, monitor, and audit compliance policies across all Microsoft 365 workloads.

  • Ensure consistent data governance and adherence to industry standards.

3. Data Protection & DLP

  • Design and manage Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies.

  • Monitor data activities to prevent leaks, breaches, and unauthorized access.

  • Implement retention labels, information governance, and sensitivity labeling.

4. Incident Detection & Response

  • Coordinate incident response procedures and escalation workflows.

  • Identify and resolve security threats, anomalies, and vulnerabilities.

  • Conduct investigations and prepare post-incident reports.

5. Training & Documentation

  • Provide internal training on security practices and compliance awareness.

  • Develop policy documentation, user guidelines, and best-practice manuals.

6. Reporting & Audit Support

  • Produce dashboards and reports for management and auditors.

  • Conduct internal audits and implement corrective action plans.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft 365 security and compliance roles.

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in Azure AD, Conditional Access, Microsoft Defender, DLP, Compliance Manager.

  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).

  • Proficiency in PowerShell automation and security scripting.

  • Deep understanding of Microsoft 365 governance and security baselines.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Strong communication and remote collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize efficiently.


Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance & Identity Fundamentals

  • Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate

  • Additional M365 or Azure certifications are a plus.
