This position is based at the lodge in Kayonza, Rwanda, and is crucial for delivering exceptional first and last impressions for our guests. The ideal candidate must be highly responsible, customer-focused, and possess expert driving skills to manage lodge vehicles safely within and around the Park boundaries.

π Job Brief: Driving Safety and Hospitality Excellence
The Porter & Relief Driver is responsible for two primary functions: acting as a Front Office Porter to assist guests with luggage and room orientation, and serving as a Relief Driver, ensuring the safe and compliant operation of hotel vehicles for official use. This role demands meticulous attention to detail in vehicle maintenance and adherence to strict safety standards for both driving and guest service.
β Key Responsibilities & Areas of Focus
A. Guest Service (Porter Duties)
First Impression: Welcome all guests in a professional and courteous manner, providing an unforgettable first impression of the lodge.
Luggage Handling: Efficiently and safely assist guests with the transfer of luggage and belongings during check-in and check-out.
Guest Orientation: Escort guests to their rooms and provide detailed, professional explanations of all room features, facilities (lights, AC, TV), and hotel services.
Front Office Support: Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all lodge features, services, and local attractions to address guest inquiries efficiently. Ensure the reception and entrance area remain clean and organized.
B. Vehicle Operations (Relief Driver Duties)
Road Safety: Strictly obey all traffic regulations and hotel policies when driving lodge vehicles, ensuring that all passengers wear seat belts.
Maintenance & Inspection: Conduct thorough daily checks (tyres, lights, brakes, fuel) to confirm the vehicle is in safe and roadworthy condition. Report all defects or damages immediately to management.
Compliance & Security: Maintain a valid driverβs license and ensure all vehicle documentation (license, insurance) is up-to-date. Exercise extreme care and security to protect the vehicle and contents against theft or damage.
Documentation: Accurately complete the Driver’s Log Sheet after every trip and retain all fuel dockets for accountability.
Driver’s Availability: Act as a dedicated Porter at the Front Office during periods when no driving assignments are required.
C. Health, Safety, and Responsible Business
Adhere to all Health & Safety policies (including emergency procedures) and Responsible Business practices (Planet 21 principles) regarding waste reduction and energy minimization.
Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene, dress, and conduct at all times.
π― Candidate Requirements
1. Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualification: Secondary school diploma in any field.
Driving License: Mandatory possession of a valid Driving License Categories B and D.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of verifiable professional driving experience.
Industry Experience: Previous working experience in the hospitality or tourism industry is highly desirable.
Language: Fluency in English is required for effective guest communication.
