π Job Brief: Ensuring Continuous Water Management
The Pump Fitter will take primary responsibility for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of all pumping systems and their associated piping networks. This is crucial for managing water and drainage across both underground and surface mine environments. The role requires expert knowledge of pump mechanics, hydraulic systems, and water management strategies to ensure non-stop, compliant, and safe operations.
β Core Responsibilities of the Pump Fitter
The successful candidate will focus on the following high-priority tasks:
Installation and Commissioning: Successfully install, test, and commission various types of pumps, piping systems, and auxiliary equipment necessary for efficient dewatering and drainage, meeting all technical and safety specifications.
Routine Maintenance & Repairs: Execute comprehensive preventative maintenance (PM) schedules, troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic faults, and perform accurate repairs on pumps and water management systems to minimize operational failure and downtime.
System Optimization: Regularly inspect system performance and propose technical modifications or upgrades to enhance the reliability, hydraulic efficiency, and energy usage of the current pumping infrastructure.
Diagnostics and Problem Solving: Utilize specialized tools and diagnostic equipment to quickly identify the root cause of mechanical or hydraulic failure in pumping units and apply prompt, effective corrective measures.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure all procedures, installations, and maintenance activities strictly adhere to company safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices for underground work.
Training and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and conduct training for junior team members and equipment operators on the correct operation, monitoring, and fundamental maintenance of the pumping equipment.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain precise, up-to-date records of all maintenance logs, repairs performed, and system modifications. Report any critical system issues or potential improvements to the Supervisor.
π― Candidate Requirements
We are seeking a specialist with direct experience in demanding industrial or subterranean environments.
1. Education and Certification
A minimum of a Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Certificate Level III in Fitting, Mechanical Maintenance, or a closely related technical field.
Additional professional certifications in pump mechanics, hydraulics, or specialized water management are highly valued.
2. Experience and Technical Skills
At least 2 years of verifiable experience as a Pump Fitter, with a preference for experience gained in underground mining or other heavy industrial settings.
Proven expertise in the installation, servicing, and repair of industrial pumps and complex piping networks.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and hydraulics relevant to water transfer and management.
Ability to accurately read and interpret technical manuals, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and schematics.
3. Personal Attributes and Physical Requirements
Detail Orientation: Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Resilience: Highly effective problem-solver, capable of working effectively under pressure in a high-demand environment.
Physical Fitness: Must be physically capable of working in challenging conditions typical of underground mining environments, including wet, dark, and confined spaces.
Flexibility: Willingness to work shifts, extended hours, and be immediately available for on-call emergency repairs.
