Senior AI Software Engineer (Consultant) – IremboAI | Kigali or Remote | 10-Month Contract

We are hiring a highly skilled Senior AI Software Engineer (Consultant) for a 10-month contract to develop and deploy advanced AI applications, including multilingual chatbots, service-application engines, and Voice over AI technologies.

The Opportunity

This is a senior-level role for an AI software expert who can architect, build, and ship production-grade AI systems. You will lead the development of core AI components that help citizens navigate government services and ensure our Voice over AI systems deliver natural, accurate, and inclusive digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

1. AI Model & Workflow Development

• Design, develop, and implement scalable AI/ML models and LLM-based workflows using frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar.

• Build modular and production-ready components that support multilingual interactions.

2. Voice Over AI Engineering

• Architect and integrate Voice over AI capabilities, including speech recognition, NLU, and speech synthesis.

• Ensure the voice experience is intuitive, accurate, and optimized for Rwandan citizens, including low-literacy users.

3. Service Application Engine

• Develop AI systems that guide citizens step-by-step through applying for government services.

• Ensure high accuracy, security, and compliance with public-sector technology standards.

4. Code Quality & Engineering Standards

• Write clean, well-structured, and well-documented code.

• Lead and conduct code reviews to maintain high engineering quality.

5. Deployment, Monitoring & Optimization

• Collaborate with MLOps/DevOps teams to deploy models and AI services to production environments.

• Monitor performance, reduce latency, optimize resource use, and troubleshoot system-level issues.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with product managers, designers, and government subject matter experts.

• Translate product requirements into high-performance AI solutions.

7. Technical Support & Leadership

• Provide expertise, mentorship, and technical support throughout the lifecycle of the AI platform.

• Help shape architectural decisions and AI engineering strategy.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering.

• 2+ years in AI/ML engineering, building and deploying models in production.

• Expert-level Python skills and proficiency with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn.

• Strong experience in NLP, NLU, STT/TTS, or Voice over AI systems.

• Proven experience designing scalable distributed systems for AI applications.

• Track record of completing complex, high-impact work under short-term contract timelines.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with government or public-sector systems.

• Knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Understanding of data protection, privacy, and security best practices.
