Position: Senior Linux Server Administrator (Part-Time Mentor & DevOps Trainer)
Location: Remote / Kigali-based team
Commitment: 10–15 hours per week
Work Model: Fully Remote
We are looking for an experienced Senior Linux Server Administrator to join our team as a part-time mentor, trainer, and technical guide. In this role, you will work closely with our development team through daily sessions focused on real-world DevOps, Linux infrastructure, automation, and modern deployment workflows.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about teaching, troubleshooting, and hands-on IT infrastructure work, without needing to prepare presentations or training materials. All sessions take place in a practical test environment with break-and-fix, live debugging, and guided problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL)
Support developers with server setup, configuration, and deployment
Deploy and manage applications using Docker containers and orchestration tools
Configure reverse proxies, DNS, load balancers, and network security
Administer PostgreSQL databases including backups and performance tuning
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions
Monitor server health and security using Netdata and other monitoring tools
Manage containerized workloads via Portainer.io and Coolify.io
Configure NGINX Proxy Manager for SSL termination and load balancing
Mentor developers and help improve team-wide DevOps skills
Collaborate across flexible hours to support global team availability
Required Technical Skills
Mandatory:
5+ years of hands-on Linux system administration
Advanced experience with Docker and container orchestration
Strong SSH administration skills
Proficiency in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages
Reverse proxy management (NGINX, Apache, Traefik)
PostgreSQL administration (optimization, backups, security)
Networking, firewalls, and server hardening
Experience with automated deployments (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
Familiarity with system monitoring and performance analysis
Preferred Experience
Portainer.io, Coolify.io, NGINX Proxy Manager
Fusio API management platform
N8N workflow automation
Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible)
Preferred Certifications:
LPIC (Linux Professional Institute)
Docker Certified Associate
AWS or Azure certifications
Bonus Skills:
Previous mentoring or teaching experience
Experience with microservices and API management
Strong understanding of modern DevOps tools and workflows
Ability to work occasional night or weekend hours if needed
Work Schedule
We operate as a fully remote, globally distributed startup. Working hours and availability will be discussed during the interview based on mutual flexibility.
