Mantis Akagera Game Lodge, located within the prestigious Akagera National Park in Rwanda, is seeking a highly experienced and licensed Senior Security Officer to lead and manage all site safety and security operations.

This position is based at the lodge, which is central to a Big-5 reserve. The core objective of the Security Officer is to maintain a safe, secure, and compliant environment for our guests, staff, and valuable lodge assets, while upholding the high standards of the Mantis Collection brand.

π¨ Job Brief: Ensuring a Safe and Secure Environment
The Senior Security Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive security systems and procedures across the lodge’s premises. This executive-level safety function requires extensive knowledge of physical security, surveillance technology, emergency response protocols, and continuous liaison with both Park Management and local government agencies.
β Key Responsibilities & Areas of Security Management
1. Security Systems and Management
System Oversight: Implement and manage all security systems, including CCTV surveillance, access control (door locking mechanisms, restricted areas), key control, and security patrols.
Contract Management: Effectively manage and supervise the 3rd party security contract and their guards, ensuring they meet the high standards required for a luxury lodge environment.
Physical Security: Conduct regular, documented patrols of the entire hotel property and grounds, documenting all activities and potential risks in the daily security log.
2. Safety, Training, and Compliance
Training & Awareness: Serve as the focal point for safety and security. Implement and continuously deliver awareness and training programs for all hotel staff on emergency procedures, fire prevention, and safety protocols.
Risk Mitigation: Proactively anticipate possible hazards (both internal and external) and take immediate corrective action. Ensure the lodge’s Risk Management System is adapted to the local environment, including protocols for wildlife encounters and park entry/exit.
Compliance: Ensure full adherence to all hotel safety regulations and existing Rwandan laws related to security and safety. Oversee first aid and fire-fighting programs.
3. Reporting and External Liaison
Incident Management: Process and thoroughly investigate all written reports related to security incidents, guest/employee accidents, theft, loss of property, and vandalism, ensuring prompt communication to the General Manager.
Stakeholder Relations: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Akagera Park Management, local Police, Fire, and Government agencies to facilitate cooperation and emergency response.
Contractor Vetting: Manage the daily sign-in and adherence to safety policies for all external contractors working on the property.
π― Candidate Requirements
1. Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualification: Bachelorβs degree in any field, complemented by extensive proven skills and experience in security management.
Training and Licensing: Must possess State-prescribed security training, licensing, and registration recognized in Rwanda.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar Senior Security role, preferably in the hospitality, luxury hotel, or critical infrastructure sector.
Driving: Must possess a valid driving license with at least four years of driving experience.
2. Core Skills and Attributes
Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of physical security procedures, surveillance equipment operation, and industry regulations.
Leadership: Superb leadership, organizational, and team management abilities, particularly in coordinating third-party contracts.
Response Management: Advanced ability to coordinate immediate responses to security breaches, threats, and emergency alerts (requires 24/7 availability).
Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively handle complaints, conduct investigations, and engage external stakeholders.
